I am proud to be the Tumuaki of Matauri Bay School. We have a proud school history and are working together as students, staff and whānau to make a bright future for our tamariki, whānau and hapu. I am available at any time to kōrero about our Kura and how we can work together.

Kia Ora- my name is Wendy Sutherland and I am the new teacher in Tai Roa and also the new Deputy Principal here at Matauri Bay school. I have been living in the far north for nine years now and am loving the vibe from the people and the land. I am an experienced teacher and leader with many years of both under my belt. My philosophy is to empower others to be leaders of their own learning and to create inquiring minds. I am a firm believer in building and maintaining positive, learning relationships with my students, so they feel safe and happy to take risks in order to grow and flourish. I also believe it takes a village to raise a child and look forward to getting to know our whanau and the wider community. ​

My name is Rauaroha Heta, I am teaching in Tai Huri here at Matauri Bay School. I have lived in Kaeo for many years and have taught for most of them. 

I am passionate and dedicated to 

about students learning by providing authentic learning opportunities when ever possible. Building positive relationships and making strong connections with students is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. I am a strong advocate for te reo Māori me ona tikanga, and will promote learning opportunities within the school for all to succeed.

Kia ora, my name is Charlotte Buchanan. This year, I am teaching in Tai Timu on Friday’s. I am originally from Tāmaki Makaurau however, have recently moved to Matauri Bay with my partner and our son. I have been teaching for 8 years and am excited for this new chapter at Matauri Bay School. My philosophy is to empower tamariki to be lifelong learners, to be critical thinkers and reach their potential. To help tamariki reach their potential, I believe it is vital to build and maintain a strong learning relationship with them and their whanau.  My door is always open for korero about your child and their learning. These foundation years with our tamariki are so important, at the beginning of their journey and I feel privileged to be part of it in a small way. I look forward to meeting whānau and community and to be part of your child’s journey together.​

Kaiako – Te Reo Maori

Tēnā koutou katoa ko Tiare Pomare tōku ingoa. I am a te reo Māori teacher here at Matauri Bay school. I am very passionate about te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and hope to instill positive values into our tamariki to help them in their learning journey. I have been teaching Te reo Māori me ona tikanga for over 15 years to people of all ages and find enjoyment in encouraging all to embrace our unique language and customs. My efforts in Matauri Bay School are to help enhance a bicultural approach for Māori students to thrive in education.
